Can the Bride Pay Her family's Half of Wedding Expenses
My fiancee and I are planning our wedding, and we are both very excited. One issue though. She is better with money then I am, and makes more, so she has significant savings, and I do not. She is asking that my family contribute to half the wedding costs (which I accept as the more modern approach) but is not asking her family to contribute as she is using her savings to pay their half. Neither of our families is particularly wealthy, but both can afford to contribute. Is this sound logic?

Parents aren't responsible for paying for their kids' weddings anymore, neither should they be asked to do so. If your parents offer, terrific. If not, then you and your bride should plan and host the type of wedding the two of you can afford. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

I couldn't agree more. You should be contributing as much as she or host a less expensive wedding. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
