     Double engagement = double trouble!

My boyfriend of almost 5 years and I recently got engaged this past week and we're very excited about it...the only problem is a few weeks ago two of our good friends (who were the ones that had introduced us in the first place!) announced they were getting engaged. We have yet to tell them about our engagement, and I am concerned that things are going to get very messy as we all share the same circle of friends. They have not set a date yet but mentioned that it may be next summer--this is when my fiance and I are planning on getting married as well. I'm concerned that once one of us sets a date, the other couple will be forced to continuously check with the other couple to ensure that the bachelor/bacherlorette parties, wedding showers, wedding social, etc. will not be interfering with the other couple's plans! I feel that we will continuously be stepping on each other's toes. In addition, since we share the same circle of friends, I worry about the added costs our friends will have to endure if they attend two weddings back-to-back. Should I be concerned about all of this? Is there anything I can do to minimize these potential problems? I've barely been engaged for 1 week and already I'm stressed! Thank-you for your reply.

Dear Double Trouble,

It is best to talk to your friends now. Perhaps you can turn this into a positive. You may even want a double wedding. They may want to do something entirely different than you two. You never know until you talk about it.

Best wishes,
