     Duties of Wedding Host Couple

For the first time today, I learned that my son and his fiancee were asking some family members to be the "host couple" at their wedding. What are the duties and obligations of the host couple as opposed to parents of the bride and groom? Thanks for any info you can offer.

Dear Vicki,

There is no such thing. Someone may have made this up and some others ran with it. But, there really is no such title and no duties involved.

The couple are the hosts. They should be greeting all of their guests. Usually groomsmen will greet guests at the wedding in order to seat them. And the same is true with the reception.

In the past, the parents of the bride were considered hosts because they paid and invited many of their friends. It really isn't like this today, or at least it shouldn't be.

Best wishes,
