I'm trying to decide whether or not to hire a wedding planner and am wondering how common the practice is. Do you know what % of couples hire an independent (not employed by a hotel) wedding planner in the US? If I decide to hire a planner, how long prior to my wedding date should I get them involved? Should it be as early as possible? Before even choosing the wedding location? Does getting them involved early typically increase their bill?

Dear Employing a wedding planner,
Good questions. Yes the planner's fee will increase with the amount of work that you are employing her/him to do. If you hire a planner from the get go, you'll be getting full service. Some brides do all of their own leg work and then turn it over to the professional planner right before the wedding, this is called "day of" service.
