I recently became engaged in February. Once my fiance and I began thinking about planning a wedding we came to a complete stand still. I'm not really close to anyone in my family, I just have a couple of friends that are important to invite. My fiance's family lives across the country and it is not very practical for them to come. We have thought about just flying to my fiance's home state for the wedding, but how would I plane that (on a budget) from another state?
We thought about a tasteful ceremony with just me and my fiance. I'm just not sure how to plan that or if it's even practical. I hate the idea of going to the court house and signing papers. Is there anything we can do?

Your situation is perfect for a destination wedding, providing it is in the budget. Fly off to somewhere awesom and state your vows on a beautiful beach, a scenic ravine or a tropical rainforest. The choices are really endless.
I've considered a US car trip, seeing the country and getting married along the way. However, if you want to do any of this it has to be planned since you'll have to get a marriage license. Once you have the place narrowed down you can contact an officiant in that area. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

I completely agree. You can get married anywhere and by anyone who can marry others legally. Even a friend could marry you two if that person did a little homework and paperwork--very easy. Have fun with this! Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
