     How to announce an engagement

I just got engaged on January 12th. Do I send out announcements or do I just put the announcement in the newspaper? I do have out of town people that I would love to find out about our engagement, but I want to do the right thing.

Dear Tommysbride,

You could call or email the special people in your life to inform them, but individual announcements may seem like a plea for an engagement gift. The newspaper announcement is better.

Best wishes,

when should I post this in the paper, as soon as possible or is may too late. We aren't getting married for two years, so I want to space things out.

Don't announce it for at least another year. One year in advance is the earliest to announce.
