Parents paying for wedding - can they control guest list

If the bride's parents are paying for the reception does it give them the right to invite four times as many people? Plus, should it allow them final say on any decision made about the reception?

Dear Hopefulone,

Nope twice. Parents are no longer financially responsible for their children's weddings. This also means that the wedding is not considered a social event for them as it once was in the past. Any contributions to the wedding is considered a gift. It doesn't give them any planning or inviting privileges.

But, we should allow them some guests if they are paying. It is only polite.

Perhaps it would be better not to accept any money from parents and plan and host the wedding you want.

Best wishes,
