My fiancee and I are excitedly planning a wedding. We had set a date for next year. There was an incident with my dad and he asked me to move out. So, my fiancee and I are living together for the past 3 weeks or so. We are both college students. He will be graduating in August and I will be graduating in next year. Should we postpone the wedding? We had already booked the ballroom and now we don't think that we will be able to pay for rent, bills, etc. and pay for a wedding at the same time. Most people tell us not to postpone, that it can still happen, just make it a smaller, less expensive event. What do we do? What advice would you give me in a situation like this.

Dear Liza,
Weddings don't have to be expensive affairs. Yours can be very inexpensive. But, it would be prudent to plan an event you can easily afford. So, plan on something small and intimate. Actually, I've heard of many lately who are marrying in parks with a picnic (that the host provides) following. I believe our down economy has helped people realize that we should really focus on the basics. The wedding is supposed to be more about people who care about each other sharing a special moment, rather than a showy event.
