Sending out too many wedding related announcements
I was recently engaged and would like to send out an engagement announcement to friends and families. I was considering one of the engagement announcement photo cards from Snapfish.com. We have not set a date yet so it would be a very informal mail out(Introducing the future Mr. and Mrs.). When we do set a date (which we are thinking will be about a year and a half out) we would like to send out save the date magnets. My question is this: Is this too many mail outs on top of the wedding invitation we would send 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding?

As long as the engagement announcements are spaced well timewise before the save-the-dates (which I wouldn't send any earlier than a year out, and which are supposed to go out about 6 months out), I think you're fine. It's nice of you to keep your friends informed. Just keep the engagement announcement to your close family and friends. You never know who will interpret it as a "pre-invitation" and it's pretty early to get locked in to a guest list now. I completely agree. Actually, many view these as a plea for gifts, even if they are not supposed to be. So, please do send these to only those who are very close. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
