Should mother of the groom contact mother of the bride regarding engagement
My son just got engaged . I think he is embarrassed of us and says he will not even invite his parents to the wedding. I should also mention that he is upset that I could not help him more with the expense of the engagement ring. Should I, the mother of the groom, still make the first call to mother of the bride regarding the engagement or just stay out of their wedding planning completely?

Dear Oe,
It may be best to stay low until your son decides that he will invite you to the wedding. He may see your call as a means to over ride his wishes.
You were not obligated to pay for any part of his fiancee's ring. That is his gift to her.

Keep the lines of communication open. Let your son know that you are available to particiapte, making those ways very clear. Hopefully he will come to figure out that you were not obligated to help him pay for the engagement ring.
