I just got engaged a couple of weeks ago and I have already started to plan my wedding. Although, it won't be for another 2 years. Everyone keeps telling me that I am starting too early and that life will change too much before then. This is really getting me sad because I have looked forward to this for not only 3 years (especially since we started dating) but for my entire life. I have only reserved the reception site, contacted a possible wedding planner, decided on colors, started a guest list, and plan to go look at a few churches in 3weeks. Is this planning too early, should I slow down? If so, what is a more reasonable time period for me to be doing these things?

Your friends are right and one of the main things that can change in 2 years is your reception site. Sales and banquet managers change jobs as often as we change shoes, so be absolutely sure to get everything in writing. Don't accept anything verbal because the person telling you that most likely will not be there when the time comes. You run the risk of burning out your friends and family by starting this early. Don't obsess. Continue to search for the church, get that set up and then just enjoy the process of slowly and methodically selecting the other elements of your wedding. I couldn't agree more. There are plenty of wedding planners (the written form) that can help you in the planning. There are many books as well.
Planning typically begins one year from the chosen date. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
