Verbal invitations to rehearsal dinner?

Is is OK to just verbally invite the wedding party to the rehearsal dinner or should I send invitations? If so, how should they be worded?

Dear Tscharrah,

This is very similar to any other type of party. If yours is more formal, then you would use written invitations. If not, then a verbal invitation is fine.
