     Wedding date etiquette

Hi... hoping someone can help!
My partner has just proposed, we always agreed we wanted a short engagement, and April/May 2006 seeems like a good time (I know it's not long, but we want something quite simple)...
BUT, his older sister got engaged last new year (1st Jan 2005), and recently set a date for Aug 2006 (they've just had a 2nd baby). I don't want to wait until 2007, but I don't want to upset his sister... what should we do?
Any help is much appreciated!

Dear Wedding Date Etiquette,

You have nothing to worry about. You are planning a simple wedding, which doesn't typically involve a large amount of guests and work for the families. But, even if it did your date is months from theirs.

There is no magic number of days or months in which we try to schedule our events one from another. We just try to do what is fair. Usually this is two to three months depending on the formality. We never want to tire our guests.

So, you are right in that 3-4 month spread between yours and hers. This is plenty of time. I definitely hope she sees it as such because it really is no big deal.

Oh! It is very nice that you were concerned--very respectful of you :)

Best wishes,
