If any of you are in the NJ area and have ever made it to Margate, you probably know about the six story elephant. Well, that's my story. I'm getting married in a big elephant named lucy. But, we can't hurt the walls! The decor in there is very dark, which I don't mind, but we don't want the wedding to be dull so we thought we'd brighten it up. How does one go about setting up a ceiling canopy or something without tacks or staples? Can it be done? What are the alternatives to this?

This is a unique venue and I am sure they have vendors fully aware of the restrictions and the needs. I would leave this to a professional. Ask your venue for recommendations for lighting and decor. They will supply you with suggestions of qualified and approved vendors. You would not want to do anything to damage the surface and create a liability for you. I agree that trying to hang a canopy is not something you want to try yourself, especially in a restrictive venue. On a smaller scale, you might be able to rent small uplights, or have a rental company install sections of "pipe and drape" in key areas to give the room a different feel without touching the walls. Consult with the venue to see what's been done before, and try to use the best of the advice in a way that reflects your own style.
