     Idea for Reception

I have always wanted the traditional wedding ceremony but I wanted my reception to be different, something no-one has had around me.

I wanted a Hawaiian Reception and I can buy all my stuff pretty cheap as well but my fiance says "no way",. What can I do?

I can give you a better response if you will be so kind as to answer these three questions for me. Is your fiance just against the Hawaiian theme idea? Have you spoken with him about what type of reception he envisions? What types of activities do you both enjoy?

He says we are not Hawaiian so he does not want it.

He wants a plain jane reception.

He is into car models and I am into flowers and dolphins.

I am not sure what 'plain jane' means to him but to me it is a reception that is white, sedating and lacking color, which I happen to think is very important in creating atmosphere for wedding receptions. Maybe what you can do to compromise is instead of full blown 'everything hawaiian', add hints of the tropics or carribean. This can be done in the decorations, splashes of color through the napkins, ringholders, colored water with floating candles, pillar candles, bows on the chairs, etc.

And, one doesn't have to be from the islands to enjoy the beauty of the islands. The same goes for your hawaiian theme. These types of locales are represented routinely in themed wedding receptions and often turn a reception from ordinary to extraordinary.
