     destination wedding planning......help with timeline

My soon to be fiance and I are starting to make plans for a Las Vegas wedding possibly in October 2005 which is only about 8 months away. Can you help me with a quick timeline as far as save the date cards, invites and announcements. My friends and family are throwing my shower at the end of August. (Yes I realize you invite the same people to your shower AND your wedding) A destination wedding gives us a chance to celebrate our marriage with who we really want there so we have kept the invites relatively small (about 100 people). I think a timeline would be very helpful to me.

Destination Wedding Cecklist / Timeline

6 to 12 Months Before the Wedding Date
1) Choose a location and confirm marriage and residency regulations with the local tourist board.
2) Find a coordinator. Try coordinatorscorner.com to find a wedding planner for destination weddings.
3) Send save-the-date card / or magnets
Get a rough head count and reserve a block of hotel rooms.
4) Interview the officiant, photographer, hairstylist, florist, caterer, band or DJ, and book a ceremony venue.
Request musicians’ tapes or CDs, and have photographers and florists send you snaps of their wedding work. (Your coordinator can arrange this.)

4 Months Before
1) Confirm wedding services: flowers, food, music, photographer, and hairstylist.
2) If you are going to host a personal wedding website this is the time to get started.
3) Shop for wedding attire.
4) Purchase Airfare.

8 to 10 Weeks Before
1) Send wedding invitations
2) Confirm all licenses, tickets, paperwork, etc.
3) Order bridal party favors and gifts.

2 Weeks Before
1) Finalize guest count and confirm group activities.

2 to 7 days before
1) Arrive at your destination.
2) Ask the wedding coordinator or the banquest manager to show you the reception and ceremopny locations.
3) Meet with your coordinator and officiant to review last-minute details.
4) Distribute a list of events and greeting bags (with goodies like sunscreen, local maps, flip-flops, and bottled water) to your guests’ rooms. Have your dress steamed.
5) Attend to personal hygiene, manicure, pedicure, waxing, hair.

Wedding announcements are sent as son after the wedding as possible. have them ready to go out before you leave so you can just pop them into the mail upon your return.
