Dear Needs Help,
I'm so glad that you asked before you actually had your quickie wedding. If you marry your love now, you can not have another wedding without divorcing him somewhere in between. A wedding is a wedding whether it is in a courthouse or a church. So, please consider this.
You may get married and then have a vow renewal later. But, this cannot appear to be a wedding and be socially acceptable. It would not be viewed in a positive light.
So, it is best to plan the wedding you want now. Anything worth while is worth planning correctly. Decide where you want to marry and when. Find a venue that you can afford and reserved it. If you can't afford a reception now, you could wait and just marry. Your reception can be a big bash later. Any time within a year is viewed positively.
Because you need so much help, peruse these pages and read an excellent book. Two that come to mind are: Emily Post's Etiquette #17, by Peggy Post and The Bride's Book of Etiquette. These two have tons of great information and will help you stay within socially acceptable boundaries.
