     first dance timing

This may seem silly but my fiance and I have been arguing over whenthe appropriate time is for us to have our first dance. I have always sen people do it when the bride and groom first officially enter the reception as husband and wife, but my fiance thinks we should do it after the cake cutting because he doesn't want people to start any dancing during dinner.....

Dear First Dance Timing,

You are both right. The first dance can be performed immediately upon your announcement at the reception or immediately after dinner. The first dance is normally the invitation to the guests to begin dancing. If you do the cake cutting immediately after dinner and follow it up with the first dance, that makes a smooth flow into the dancing portion of your reception and also only interupts the flow of the evening once for the two events. Discuss this with your consultant or band/dj.
