I am the friend of a young woman getting married later this year. I know the family because I used to be a very good friend of the bride's older brother who was tragically killed seven years ago. The brother was in his mid-twenties.
The bride was talking to me about ideas for honoring her brother at the wedding. Her ideas were to have a bell rung during the ceremony, or to have an empty chair at the reception with a rose placed on it.
I told her that I thought the chair might hurt her mother's feelings as it would be too constant a reminder that the older brother was not present. Plus there is always the possibility of the reception staff removing the chair, someone not knowing the significance of the chair sitting there, etc.
Are there any other good ideas to honor the deceased at weddings?
Thank you.
