Can the rehearsal dinner invitations be mailed before the wedding invitations?

The bride was delayed from her original schedule in mailing the wedding invitations but she did send out save the date cards several weeks ago for the destination wedding with hotel info. Since it is a destination wedding, all the guests will be invited to the rehearsal dinner. The wedding invitations will probably be mailed about 4 1/2 weeks before the wedding. We had the rehearsal dinner invitations printed and and planned to mail them a few days after the wedding invitations. We asked for a reply by a certain date. If I don't mail the rehearsal dinner invitations now, the guests will be receiving them only a day or two before the date the reply was requested. Is it better to mail them before the wedding invitations or better to have the guests receive them only a day or two before we have asked for a response?

Dear Uvonda,

Guests should receive their wedding invitations 8 weeks before the wedding, even though they probably have planned if they can attend by now. It doesn't appear that there is 8 weeks before the wedding anyway though. So, although guests should receive their wedding invitations first, it is best to send the rehearsal dinner invitations out soon. Guests should have at least 2 weeks to respond.

Inviting all guests to the rehearsal dinner is probably not a great idea, as it may appear as a pre-reception, which is not proper and very confusing. But, guests just may appreciate being included.

Best wishes,
