What to wear rehearsal at MOG house

My soon to be MIL is holding the rehearsal dinner at her house and having it catered. What is appropriate to wear for this event?

My first thought is the little black dress (cocktail attire). But, you may want to ask her. Some of these events are more casual.

Hmmm, I was going to suggest considering the home's style and time of day. If you MIL lives in a mansion, just the surroundings would dictate the formality. But, very few of us are lucky enough to have well-to-do family members. Alternatively, if the dinner will be held in the backyard, (as in barbecue) then obviously more casual attire is required.

I agree with Rebecca - ask the host for more information.
