Including aunts and uncles from out of town at rehearsal dinner
As parents of the groom, my wife and I have let our son know that as we are hosting (and paying for) the rehearsal, we are not willing to include aunts and uncles from out of town (on either side). This now seems to be a matter of contention. Were we wrong to do so? We understand the rehearsal dinner to be a gathering of the wedding party and their escorts, including the clergy and musicians. (Also, should the wedding planner be included. We don't think so, but our son does.)

Dear Priest,
You are correct. Even the musicians, unless very close friends, are not expected to be guests. The wedding planner is paid to plan, so isn't an obligatory guest either.
It may be best to suggest that your son and his future wife visit either this site, which focuses on proper etiquette, or an etiquette book. They will find that you are hosting a proper event. In fact, this is an optional party for which you are not obligated to host.
