We decided to donate money to charity instead of giving favors. The charity we chose is actually the name of the person who died. The name of the charity does not explain the charity's purpose. How do I word it in a way that it is tasteful, but people will understand?

Re: [devanoy] Donation to charity in lieu of favors.

Dear Devanoy,
Actually, you are giving away something that is usually given to your guests. So, you are giving away their 'gifts' for your choice of charity. It is a nice thought, but isn't exactly fair to them--although the favor is optional.
But, you could place a card on each person's plate stating that in lieu of favors you have given to XXX charity for the benefit of SSS. You can read more about donating to charity in stead of giving favors.
