One Coaster for a wedding favor

I really want to do favors but I don't have a lot of money. Would it be okay to get the sets of 4 coasters and split them up into a single coaster for the favor? I figured they could be used during the reception and be placed at every seat or would it appear cheap and stupid? Unsure

Dear Emilink,

Actually, favors are optional. So, it may be best to skip them unless these coasters are personalized.

Best wishes,

I guess my biggest resistance to the idea is based on the question "what can someone do with one coaster?" - after the wedding. The most oft-heard complaint by those who don't like favors is that they are not useful or practical. I'm afraid you're really opening yourself up to criticism with this one.

It might be okay to split them, but why bother with the expense if it's not really about something your guests want and need? Make a lump donation to a charity and give cards to everyone stating that you gave a gift on their behalf. Or, choose something else that everyone can enjoy without feeling weird about a situation like that with the coasters.

If you feel you must give a favor, perhaps a nicely wrapped cookie or some candies would be more affordable and a better use of your money than one coaster.
