     A wedding pre-reception?

I am part of fairly large family that is based in Georgia. My brother has recently become engaged and will be getting married to a woman from Nebraska - where the wedding will also be held. Due to location and timing of the event, the majority of the family will not be in attendance. However, we would like to give them a pre-wedding reception but we are unsure of the proper title for such an occurrence and if this is even recommended. Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Dear Wants to Host,

A reception would be held afterwards. But, the groom's family often hosts a get-together to introduce the bride to the family. This is not to be a gift giving event.

It could be called a party to introduce the bride to the family.

Best wishes,

The bride has already been introduced to the family. Is there an actual title for a party like this?

Not really. Many just invite guests to a tea or brunch to introduce the bride to the family. But, there is no name for it.

If she is introduced already, there really is no need for the party.

Someone could host a reception later in the year for them though. It could be hosted any time with in the year.
