Asking guests to bring a dish to informal wedding reception

My fiance and I are getting married at a B&B; very intimate just hem and I. We don't like all the attention of a wedding and we don't have the funds for one anyway. We also already have kids together and live together so I don`t want to go all out. We can't afford to have a reception so I wanted to have a family only gathering at our home. Is it okay to ask family to bring a dish?

Dear Mnm,

No, it isn't. It is best to host the party you can afford to host. You could simply bake a cake and offer cake and beverages--mid-day or mid-morning.

Best wishes,
