Barbeque is being served at reception and rehearsal dinner
The reception dinner menu has been picked for three months and only recently has the rehearsal dinner menu been decided on. One of my bridesmaids is allergic to barbecue so she won't be able to eat any of the meat. My fiancee claims that he has talked to his mother about the same menu and she says that she likes barbecue and is not changing her menu. She is having her's catered and has not paid the caterers yet, but my mother has asked the people cooking the food already and has figured how much it will cost. My future mother-in-law almost never eats barbecue so I think she's only going with this place because it is the cheapest in town.

Opps! I guess I didn't get around to asking my question. How can I convince his mother to choose a different food for the rehearsal dinner? I've decided at this point even sandwiches would be better then having barbecue twice.

It's really his mother's perogative to serve her choice of menu since she is the host. You've already said your peace and she isn't changing her mind. So, unless her son wants to try politely suggesting she change her menu or add other choices (and reasons why) then there isn't much you can/should do. Enjoy the meal and the company as much as possible. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

I agree. Your fiance is the person to speak to his mother. Plus, you two could host this yourself and then you can choose the menu. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
