Buffet suggestions for an early afternoon ceremony/reception
First I would like to send a big Thank You to all the posters and consultants on TWQ. You all have wonderful questions and advise.
I am sure this is a Frequently Asked Question although I have searched many other posts to no avail...
We are getting married on September 15th at 3:30 in the afternoon. Formal Ceremony/Informal reception. We are on a limited budget for the reception so we will be preparing the menu ourselves. The reception will immediately follow the ceremony. What would be the most appropriate choice of food selection for a buffet; hot or cold? We will also have cake & punch.
I have not been to many weddings so I am guessing that the reception will start somewhere around 4PM, does that sound about right?

I would love to help you but will need more information. Is your reception in a church hall or a retail venue? How long do you plan for the reception to be? Nancy Tucker President of Weddings Beautiful US http://www.weddingsbeautiful.com

Dear Janabelle,
There is a problem with the formality of your event though. It is fine for the events to be slightly different in formalities. But, the reception should nearly match the formality of your wedding. Much of this has to do with the attire choice for the guests. They just may feel very confused as to how they should dress.

The reception will be in a retail venue sort-of semi formal. The formalities will be some what similar just scaled down from the ceremony itself. I am just not clear if the time of day should be factor as far as offering hot or cold foods. The reception is expected to last only about 2 hours or a little over.
Thank You all for any suggestions..
Janabelle
