Cash bar to support the troops

My fiance is in the military and we are getting married on the base. Is it ok to have a cash bar if the money is going to support the troops? Should I mention that on the response card? Red and white wine will be on available for everyone on the tables.

Although a generous offer, with the best of intentions, it's not proper for a wedding since we never ask our guests to pay for anything. Plus, it would put them in an embarrassing position if they don't want to drink or if they don't want their money donated.

Perhaps you could opt for saving money you might have spent on favors and give a donation to the troops in lieu of a wedding favor for each guest?

God bless all of you and thanks for the sacrifice you make for our country.

I couldn't agree more. This would be a big mistake.
