I am the mother of the bride. My daughter and I are paying for her wedding. Groom's mother insists on red and white wine with dinner. I prefer some champagne on the dinner tables as well as the toast. Which is best or more common?

Wine service with dinner is the most appropriate practice. For the toast-I have seen so much champagne wasted at weddings. Many people do not like champagne and will not drink more than a sip during the toast. I wouldn't break the bank on the champagne you provide for the toast or even skip the champagne and let them toast with what they have in hand. I agree. One thing I would mention though, she and her son can pay for this just as easily as you. You and your daughter are not wholly responsible for financing this. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
