Hi, we are planning a Friday night wedding reception. Most of our guests are local, but there are about 10% that are about 1.5 hours away. So, we were going to have the ceremony at 7:30pm to give everyone a chance to get there after work. If we were to then have a cocktail hour following the ceremony, dinner would not be served until 9pm. So, we were thinking of having a cocktail and heavy hor d'oeuvres reception since it will be so late, but we keep reading that they should be earlier in the day. Is this rude?

Re: [emvet] Cocktail and Hor d'oeuvres Reception at 8pm?

Dear Emvet,
If you were only serving hor d'oeuvres, then it would be impolite. But, you are serving dinner also. So, it should be fine. It should keep hunger away until dinner.
