I am looking for a caterer for what I thought was a reasonable price; $50/person. This is without alcohol (we will provide) and without tables/chairs. So far I have found no one even close to this price, the least expensive starts at $80/person.
For this reason I am considering drop off catering. Supermarkets and wholesale warehouses offer a great variety for under $20/meal but I do not know anyone who has had this experience (of drop-off catering). I know this would mean that I would then be in charge of linens/dinnerware/service on my own, which could be very stressful.
We would like our wedding to be less traditional and low key, typical weddings feel over the top for us, so the idea of drop-off catering seems to fit. Do you have any suggestions to make drop-off catering work? Will it really save me money in the end?
Thank you :)

This could work for you but what you need to do is figure the cost of the meal, plus the cost of the rentals you will need. Find a drop off caterer that appeals to you and contact a rental supply company. They can help you figure out what will be needed and provide a price. This would mean that your meal would be buffet, so you'll need tables and service pieces as well. First find the caterer and determine what they provide and for what price, then check into the rentals needed. Nancy Tucker President of Weddings Beautiful US http://www.weddingsbeautiful.com

That is good to know Nancy! It sounds like a lot of work, but I will give it a try. I am assuming I will also need service to remove the dirty plates/etc.- can those be rented individually as well?
