Feeding 200 wedding guests with hors d'oeuvres

I am trying to decide how I want to do my reception. I am the type of person who has to be different from everyone else. Traditionally, receptions are usually sit down banquet-style but, I want heavy hors d'oeuvres type. We are planning that our wedding ceremony will end by 3 p.m. so our reception may start at 4 or 4:30 p.m. I just know if I have heavy finger foods it would be a whole lot cheaper than sit down buffet style. Some people are telling me that I need to give people a full meal because of the gifts and all that, but I can not afford that. Is this a good decision are am I making a mistake? Please Help!

Dear 200 Guests,

That is a lot of guests to only have hors d'oeuvres. But, the decision of what amount of food to serve has nothing to do with gifts. Gifts are given because of our relationship with a person, not how much we want in return. Well, hopefully it is.

The amount of food and type of service is determined on the time of day. Your reception is beginning during a time that some may believe they will receive a meal, especially in some parts of the country. So, it may be best to change the time of the reception to 3 pm or 3:30.

Best wishes,
