My daughter is getting married at the end of this month and we are having a small wedding with approx. 100 family and friends attending. Her wedding will be at 3:00 in the afternoon with a short reception to follow. My problem is what to serve! She doesn't want anything fancy, but I feel we should serve something other than cake and champagne! Please help!!

Dear Sherry,
For an event at this time of day, the cake and sparkling wine is adequate. But, if you really want to serve something, you could also serve a variety of desserts, little sandwiches, or cold cuts and rolls. This would still keep the event simple, but would offer the guest just a bit more to eat.

At the end of summer there is usually a good variety of fresh fruit. Perhaps a watermelon boat with fresh fruit inside, which would make a nice table center piece. Also, a good selection of cheeses with crackers, some fresh veggies and choice of dipping sauces. Easy to prepare, keeps well in the fridge and hardly any mess to clean up.
