How To Write Out Wedding Placecards

How do we write out the wedding placecards?. For example for friends who are bringing guests, which way should the placecard read:

1. "Mr. John Smith & Guest"

2. "Mr. John Smith" then guest full name underneath

3. Both have their own placecards

For family who have significant others, but are not married, I feel to put "Mr. John Smith & Guest" would be a bit disrespectful. Should we print both names on seperate place cards just for family?

Please help. I am very confused!

Dear Pats,

It is best to have separate place cards, with the guest's name on each. If you are unable to obtain the guest's name, you could write: Ms. Jane Smith's Guest.

Best wishes,
