How many months later can I host a post wedding reception?

Situation: If my son is getting married on July 7th with about 25 people in attendance. This will not take place in a church but a museum or club with very close friends and immediate family in attendance. Following the ceremony, we will have an intimate brunch or dinner. Question: How many months later can I host a post wedding reception? There will be no mention of gifts or registry in the invite as it is not proper. Please note, I would like to host the post reception in November due to our weather (heat/storms) in Florida. What are your thoughts? Thank You, The Mother of the Groom

Dear Mother of the Groom,

This can be hosted any time during the first year. The only caveat would be that some of the traditional elements may seem a bit odd for a married couple who have been living together as husband and wife for a while, such as the first dance. So, just use your best judgment as there are no rules on this.

Just because this isn’t ‘necessarily’ a gift giving situation doesn’t mean that no one would give a gift. I would and always do. So, it is completely proper for the couple to register. They just shouldn’t include the information in the invitation. So…no worries. Enjoy!

Best wishes,
