How to plan for price per head for drinks at the reception
I am hoping you can help me out. The two venues I'm looking at for my reception both have a soda charge of $1.50 per soda! I have seen some venues that offer a $3.00 charge per person for soda the entire night but these two venues do not offer anything like that.
I wanted to offer beer & soda at my reception. I know how many barrels I should plan on getting but my issue is that I don't know how to estimate how many sodas will be consumed. I plan on having 225 guests. Some will consume beer and others will stick with soda but how would you estimate the charges for soda? I estimated 4 sodas per person, per hour, and for 6 hours that comes out to $8,000 just for soda! I hope I am estimating this wrong. I really could use your help.
Thanks much and best wishes!

Do these venues offer tea? Sodas are always pricey because it is an easy markup for the venue. It is just the nature of any venue that offers on-site catering. There isn't going to be any way of getting around this fact except not to offer it.
It will be difficult to determine how many sodas may be consumed. My experience with calculating drinks is more with alcohol, so I would recommend speaking with the banquet captain again on the numbers. If you don't want to do that, then I think your best best may be paying for no less than 2 sodas per person. Of course, not all will drink that many, and if you can offer tea at no charge, that would help tremendously.
Did you ask the venues if they will credit you back any unopened sodas at the end of the night? If you haven't, ask. Sometimes venues don't offer this option but it is available. Rhonda Allen, Bridal Consultant New Beginnings Weddings
