Is a tent really needed for an outdoor wedding reception

Hello everyone, thank you for taking the time to review my question. I'm having my wedding in August and we've opted to have it in my parents backyard (they live on a huge beautiful farm). The wedding will take place around 5:30 p.m. (generally it starts getting cooler around this time- 70 degrees) and we would have dinner served shortly after. Drinking and dancing would go long into the night (it never really gets cold, and my father would spray for bugs). Do I really need a tent for an outdoor reception/wedding?! It doesn't fit the feel I'm going for, but I'm told it is a MUST I have one. What do you think?

If you don't rent a tent, what is your rain plan? If you have extraordinarily bad heat that is out of character regionally, how will your guests stay comfortable?

The need for a tent boils down to those questions. If you have no other alternate rain or inclement weather plan, then you probably need to secure a tent. Tents are erected days before the event, so you will not have the luxury of choosing on the wedding day. If you can safely and comfortably accommodate your guests in the event of inclement weather, then no, you don't need to necessarily rent a tent.
