My dad is the pastor of a church with about 800 members (it is probably the most prominent church in our city), and my fiancee is a worship leader at another church with about 300 members. Needless to say, we are expecting a large wedding!
We both feel like the only thing to do is offer an open invitation, at least at my church, but most likely at his as well. We're expecting 400-500 guests!
If the wedding is set for 5:30, what are some options for reception food to offer to that many people? We can't afford a $12,000 reception, but at a catered $20 per plate, that's what it will cost.
From what I read, hor doeuvres aren't appropriate for evening wedding receptions. Any creative ideas on less expensive foods to feed the masses? Our wedding is formal but not traditional, so I'm open to ANY suggestions!
I really appreciate whatever advice you can offer!

Dear Mkreasons,
It may help to schedule it earlier in the day, to a time when your guests don't expect a full meal.
