     Late Evening Wedding Reception

I am thinking about having a 7pm wedding in a Catholic church, so the ceremony will take at least an hour.

What are my wedding reception options? Is it acceptable to offer heavy hors d'oeuvres or should I serve a dinner that late?

A large number of our guest are coming from out of town and my parents do not feel right about asking them to come for a short reception with no dinner served.

Due to our guest list, should I look for a church that can accomodate an earlier time or are there other options that would be socially acceptable?

Dear Proposedinrome,

Typically, you would be all right with heavy hors d'oeuvres. But, if this is in a big city or an area where you feel many of your guests will have to travel an hour or more, they may not have time to eat before your reception. So, this is a concern.

It may be best to find out if you could schedule it for an earlier hour. Just use your best judgement as only you know all of the particulars.

Best wishes,
