There is a problem with the amount of people being invited which is causing some food amount issues. They have a budget to cater for about 85 persons. The problem, I think more will show because they giving an open invitation through the newspaper announcement for this event. I am the MOG. The Bride to be and MOB have just recently told me this and are now wanting suggestions on how to feed about 150 to 175 on the same budget. They had planned a sit down dinner. 2 meat/3 veg. roll salad. The reception is at 5:30 with Dj till about 9pm. I don't see any way around this. They are thinking to change the menu to heavy horsd'oeuvre. Any suggestions or advice on how to address this? This will be our second wedding with this family we already have my daug. and her son married.(Who would have thought ??) These two youngest met at the first wedding four years ago and been planning ever since. The first I was the coordinator and and the MOG (which is very good friend of mine from nursing school) helped and we split the costs:it was each of thier's second wedding it came off very nice for what little time we had to plan. This is different ,it is the only daug and some what on formal side of things but I think they are not as well read on etiquette as they think they may be. I am not an expert but I do know where to go to get it right. Thanks so much for any help about the eating arrangements

Re: [bestmomnlaw] Meal vs heavy hors d'oeuvres for large wedding

If the bride's family is issuing an open invitation and now desires to go to the heavy hors d' oeuvres, that's fine as long as they have some idea of how many to plan for and are willing to bring home a lot of left overs if the attendance isn't what they think it will be.
