My daughter has starting planning a late afternoon semi-formal wedding in May. We were planning on having heavy hors’ de overes at the outside reception at our house following the church ceremony. This would consist of beverages, a roast beef carving station, ham and rolls, spinach dip with crackers and fresh vegetables, chocolate fountain with marshmallows, fresh fruit, pound cake and pretzel sticks and wedding and grooms cake. We were planning on having seating available for all who attend. She is planning on having a band for dancing or a DJ. Now she wants to change the time to 6:00 pm for the wedding. I am concerned that a full meal should be served at that time. What is appropriate?

Hello Nurseedna:
You are right, the time of the reception does change things. You can stay with your original plan, and use stations for the carving, or drop the veggies and add a salad station and perhaps a pasta station. This would make your offering more substantial as expected for the time of day. Nancy Tucker President of Weddings Beautiful US http://www.weddingsbeautiful.com

I agree. Great advice. As hosts, we should always provide what our guests would be expecting. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
