Monogram for wedding invitation using two initials

Hello,

My fiance and I are planning our own wedding, so on the invitations we are not putting our parents names. We are putting both our first and last names on the invite. I am not planning on changing my last name, so WE both thought it would be fine to use the monogram as GV which would be for Garcia *my last name and Valero * His last name. My side of the family think it looks nice, his side thinks his should be the only one we use (V). Should we just continue the way we have it since we both agreed? My niece created this for us.

Dear Valero,

Most of the "rules" for monograms are basically for married couples. There really isn't any formal rule, that I know of, for this. So, I think your idea is great. And, since this will reflect both of you, your initial should be included.

The design is beautiful.

Best wishes,
