     Non Alcoholic Wedding

My fiance is not drinking and does not feel comfortable having alcohol around. Any suggestions as to what kind of wedding we could have. Would wedding guest expect there to be alcohol at a wedding?

Dear Msfairlane,

There is no way to word this and guests do expect alcohol at certain times of day, especially at a reception. So, it would be best to schedule this at a time of day where people don't expect alcohol, such as 10 am-2pm.

Best wishes,

If you don't want alcohol at your wedding reception, that is fine. You are not obligated to serve it. However, if you are feeling some pressure for whatever reason to serve something, perhaps you could go with a signature, fruity on the rocks, or frozen non-alcoholic drink. We are finding this to be increasingly more popular for late morning/early afternoon wedding receptions.

As for the expectation of the guests, I believe guests expect to have a good time celebrating you, and your husband-to-be, and will do so in whatever atmosphere you create for that to happen. Wink
