Order of Events for Cocktail Reception

Can you tell us the appropriate order fo events for a wedding cocktail reception?

The wedding party and Bride and Groom are being introduced by the MC to start the night off. What should we do when we have arrived? Do we just mingle a little with the guests or should we have something 'to do' such as cutting the cake or dance?

I have seen plenty of schedules for a traditional reception, but not for a cocktail event.

Even though you are doing the cocktail reception, as long as you have music, I would include the first dance right after your introduction, then you can mingle with guests and dance and then have your cake cutting and toasts. Do your bouquet and garter toss (if you are doing them) just prior to your departure or the end. Everything is the same except you won't have a meal and blessing.
