Order of events for a cake reception?

What is a good order of events for a cake reception? Our wedding will be taking place during hours between lunch and dinner therefore we will be having a cake reception rather than a formal dinner reception.

It depends on what other formalities and activities you plan to observe or do. If you plan to do the formal dances, toasts bouquet/garter toss and departure, as well as post-ceremony photos, you might want to allow about 30 minutes for guests to arrive (offer them some sort of refreshment), have your introduction, father-daughter and mother-son dances, followed by toasts and then cake cutting. That would put the cutting about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes into the reception. Just before your departure you could do your tossing (bouquet/garter, if applicable) and then leave.

First you'll need to figure out everything you hope to do during the reception, then build a reception that best fits those plans.
