The order of the wedding reception activities might vary slightly from couple to couple, but here is what generally happens.

This timeline is based on a four-hour wedding reception block:

7:30 p.m. - Beginning of the reception

Announcement of parents, wedding party

Announcement of couple

First dance of wedding couple (some couples wait to do this after dinner)

7:45 p.m. - Dinner served

8:15 p.m. - Toasts made

8:30 p.m. - Father/Bride, Mother/Groom dance

8:45 p.m. - All other guests join in dancing

9:00 p.m. - Cutting of the cake/photos taken

Mingling/Dancing

9:30 p.m. - Bouquet Toss

9:45 p.m. - Garter Toss

10:00 p.m. - Mingling/Dancing and enjoying the rest of reception

11:30 p.m. - Reception ends
