     Post Wedding Reception

My husband and I have been married for a 1 year, but we did not have a wedding reception to invite all of our friends and family. He is still away on an assignment which is why we could not have a reception. We would like to start planning our reception this year, but I'm not sure how to approach the idea of the invite wording. Also we are pretty much set with our living arrangement and would like to word the invite to mention that we have a wish registry and or monetary gifts are welcomed. What would be the best way for us to proceed? Or since we have already marked our one year anniv these items should not be mentioned at all?

Dear Trini,

To host a traditional wedding reception at this point may seem a bit odd to your guests. But, you could host a non-traditional party to celebrate your wedding and anniversary skipping those traditional elements that may seem not appropriate for husband and wife. Please read our many posts for ideas on this.

A reception is not considered a gift giving situation. And, we never mention gifts or registry information on wedding or reception invitations. So, this would not be viewed positively. If you expected gifts and expressed this wish, especially at this point, your guests just may assume that the party is a plea for gifts.

Best wishes,
