     Proper Reception Doings

I am serving heavy appetizers and have about 90 guest invited, I've been told that only 20 percent of that number will only actually come, so that puts me at about 75. Is that rule of thumb true?

Lastly, time frame, I originally wanted the wedding, a garden wedding and garden reception to be from 4pm to 8pm but we aren't serving a sit down dinner but a heavy appetizers in a buffet format. Is that proper or do I need to serve a full meal to my guests if I am having the reception from 5pm to 8pm?

Someone had suggested I have the wedding from 2pm to 6pm, serve the heavy appetizers as mentioned above but that this gives me an "out" with regards to having to serve a full meal because it is before dinner essentially. What would you recommend?

Dear Vankova,

Sometimes the 20% rule applies and sometimes guests bring their own guests, which increases the guest list.

It is best to do as you have been advised. We serve the food guests expect to receive at the time of day of the event. So, earlier would be much better.

Best wishes,
