Going over our wedding plans we realized that there will be a 4 hour gap between our wedding and the reception. (2:30pm wedding, 7:30pm reception) 2:30 is the latest my Catholic church will allow weddings on a Saturday and our reception location is a historical mansion that will not let caterers on site until 5:30pm (and they need 2 hours of prep time)
What should we do about the 4 hour gap for our guests? Should we coordinate some kind of activity for them to keep them occupied? I just feel that most guest will decide to attend on the ceremony or the wedding since the gap is so big.
Is it very unusal to have a mid day wedding with an evening reception?

Dear Gap of Time,
It isn't unusual, but it isn't polite to the guests. I'm very happy you wish to do something about it. This is very considerate.
Many times the couple will arrange a room at a near by hotel with refreshments for guests to mingle, plan a site seeing trip, or some sort of local venture. It should be something that they can do in their nice clothes unless it will be easy for them to change.
